Hi all,
I am an Ericsson engineer working on a product that is the next version in the evolution of Dicos. This GDB support is still actively used in our products in Ericsson.
If it is possible please do not remove it from GDB.
Thanks!
Best regards,
Laszlo Benedek

Ok, thanks for the notice, that helps us know that it is still relevant.
There hasn't been any contribution related to Dicos in a while, so we weren't sure. If
you stumble on any problem, don't hesitate to try to contribute fixes upstream, that way
we know that the platform is being used (and you don't have to maintain patches on the
side).
For others, here's the original thread:

Thanks for the update.
It would be nice to have someone step up and be a maintainer of the
"port" then, otherwise I think this question will be raised again in a
couple years.
If we have a name we can get in touch with, it makes it easier for us to
verify the status of the code and prevent unwanted removals.

Hi László,
I stumbled on Dicos today, as I was working on a feature, so I thought
I'd do a check-in with you. Can you confirm that the Dicos port is
still used? Also, do you guys really use upstream GDB for this, not an
ancient version? Given that there was no updates regarding Dicos in
many many years, I would actually be a bit surprised if the port hadn't
bit-rotten a little bit.
Thanks!

Do we have a maintainer to step up and address conflicts when they arise, or clarify which parts of the port are still useful etc?

Hi
I don't know what it would mean to have a maintaner, or how that works in general, but you can contact me with any issues regarding the port.

It would be good to list dicos in the MAINTAINERS file, with you as the
maintainer, where all the "--target..." are listed. I'm not sure what
the exact triplet(s) would be though. Can you propose a patch that add
dicos (with you as the maintainer) to that list?
It is a good idea to do some testing of your port whenever a new version
is about to be released (for instance, GDB 17 will branch soon).
Especially since your port works unlike any others, w.r.t. shared
libraries, so it could break and nobody will notice.
There has been no changes related to Dicos for many years, so I'm
actually kind of surprised that the port worked flawlessly for all this
time. Good news I guess.
Finally, if you have any downstream fixes, I would encourage you to
submit them upstream. It will show that the port is actively used.

Probably not. I never heard anything again about DICOS ever since the
original port work 12 years ago or some such. I was under the impression
that Ericsson stopped caring about it not long after. I'd be surprised if
the port isn't bit rotten by now.
But note that DICOS had nothing to do with tracepoints.

Hi,
In the middle of discussing the usefulness of tracepoints/fast
tracepoints (which should be left for another thread potentially), do we
still care about DICOS?
I see the files are still in the tree, along with sprinkled references
here and there. Should we just declare that dead and have the code
cleaned up?

Luis
