The state of this is that while gdb tries to use the markup, nobody has done the work to fix up the build to create a .pot file, etc. I see we don't even have a bug about this, so I filed one: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=33843 Anyway I think a change like this would be welcome.
