Could you please tell me what version of the kernel is required in order
to do kernel tracing with LTTng 2.0 and CTF output?

I have not been able to find this information on the website or in any of
the documentation.

Thanks!

Ben

The minimal version we've tested is 2.6.38.

You can find this information in the readme of the kernel modules:
http://git.lttng.org/?p=lttng-modules.git;a=blob;f=README

and on the download page.

We should probably put a kernel version compability matrix, with links
from the lttng 2.0 kernel tracer and download pages.

Thanks,

Mathieu

Probablement simply add the requirement to the kernel tracer main page
(http://lttng.org/lttng-kernel-tracer) would be sufficient.

Oh god, please, no...
I'm still having nightmares from
http://git.lttng.org/?p=lttv.git;a=blob_plain;f=doc/developer/lttng-lttv-compatibility.html;hb=HEAD

;)

Granted, the minimum requirement could be advertised a bit more
prominently (on the lttng2.0 page for example).

Also, I remember someone being able to run it on 2.6.35 by backporting 1
or 2 kernel patches. Perhaps it'd be worth re-testing and documenting
this procedure somewhere?

Cheers,

Yes, Yannick probably still has the patches.

Thanks,

Mathieu

Yes, that was me. Since my initial work on that was in september, it's
currently broken.
I need to adapt it to the syscalls and statedump additions.
More on that front soon I hope.

Yannick
