Hi guys;
It's been more than one year since the last official version of gdb was
released. Quite a few changes have gone into gdb since then. When are
you guys releasing the next version of gdb? I would like to pick up some
of the latest changes. My other option is to do a cvs checkout but then
that will not be a official release.
Cheers,
Ani

We're not planning a 6.9 release.
There will be a 7.0 release "real soon now"
(maybe in September).
Joel, do we have a date estimate at this point?

Good to hear again from you Mike!

Excellent! I can understand the major version bump up, given the volume
of work that has gone in since 6.8. I was actually thinking of grabbing
the cvs nightly tarballs if it's not released any time sooner.
Cheers,
Ani

I'll be back in a week or two, and should have time to work on
the release. I'd love to cut the branch mid september, for instance,
and then create a first release shortly after that.
We should probably do a round-table look at the remaining issues from
the list documented in our gdb-7.0_release wiki page... Once we're
ready, the actual technical work to cut the branch and then make the
release takes about an hour each.

Can I suggest that a day be picked and announced at least two weeks in
advance, so that folks with things they want in have some amount of
time to finish the work.

My 2 cents on this (others may disagree): I think we've delayed the
release enough that we should not add any additional delay. We have
identified a list of issues that we want to fix before branching, and
I suggest that we should feel free to branch as soon as these items are
resolved. Anything extra should not delay the 7.0 release. We can
certainly discuss individual contributions and decide whether they
should be made part of the 7.0 release, but anything else can wait for
the next release cycle, which we can make as early after 7.0 as we want.

I don't understand. I wasn't asking for any delay, per se.
You said "back in a week or two", and "cut the branch mid september".
That's ~2 weeks away (that's, in part, why I picked two weeks).
I'd just like to see the community get a definitive date to set
expectations and help folks schedule their time (for those that it
would help).

(I will be back home and back at work on Saturday)

I guess we can try to set a new target date if it helps others,
but I have been reluctant to do that because I don't want us to
have to wait for that target date in the off chance that we might
be ready before that date. That being said, if the community would
prefer having a date, that will be fine too!

Just set it to the earliest you think we (and you) will possibly
be ready -- and then let it slip if necessary.
