I've recently gatewayed the apparently defunct gdb-bugs mailing list on
sourceware to bug-gdb at gnu.
This means that messages to gdb-bugs will go to bug-gdb and vice versa.
One notable exception is that most spam sent to bug-gdb won't make it to
gdb-bugs thanks to the spam blocking software running on
sources.redhat.com.
That's my primary motivation for effecting this gateway. As I was in
the process of typing this message, sourceware blocked four pieces of
spam from bug-gdb. So, I guess that part works.
This has been in operation for a while now so I think it is safe to
conclude that it is working. Feel free to subscribe by sending email to
gdb-bugs-subscribe at sources dot redhat dot com
FYI,

If you are inclined to send spam, then aaaspam@sources.redhat.com is
the place to send it. Send mail there to be blocked from sending future
mail to sources.redhat.com mailing lists.

But doesn't this mean that everything we now post to gdb-bugs will get
splatted onto usenet, where all those spam-bots will start garnering email
addresses?

Huh? How will this cause anything to show up in usenet that wouldn't already
have been there? The only usenet groups that I'm aware of are the ones at
gmane.org.
For the record, no one was posting anything to gdb-bugs prior to this.

I was under the impression that all the bug-<tool>@gnu.org lists were
mirrored onto the gnu.<tool>.bug usenet groups.

Ok, and...?
Since the last message to gdb-bugs at sources dot redhat dot com prior
to this was on March 12, 2001, I don't really see what the issue is.
If you don't want to use the list then don't use it. This is just an
alternate method for accessing bug-gdb@gnu.org. Feel free to ignore it.

Well, it means that anyone who does post to gdb-bugs at sources ... should
be aware of the implication: while the list itself is spam protected, your
personal email address is not.

I hadn't realized it was that dead.

Never mind. The issue is more on the gnu.org side than sources.redhat.com
