Put simply I've had no luck.
10.20, configured with 'CC=cc -Ae' ..../configure dies in libiberty:
cc -Ae -c -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -g -I.
-I/es/scratch/cagney/51/gdb/src/libiberty/../include
/es/scratch/cagney/51/gdb/src/libiberty/regex.c
cc: "/es/scratch/cagney/51/gdb/src/libiberty/regex.c", line 305: error
1713: Illegal redeclaration for identifier "uintptr_t".
11.00, configured with ....../configure dies:
finding the maximum length of command line arguments...
/es/scratch/cagney/51/gdb/src/opcodes/../ltconfig[790]: There is not
enough memory available now.
configure: error: libtool configure failed
Configure in
/es/scratch/cagney/51/gdb/behemoth-hppa64-hp-hpux11.00/opcodes failed,
exiting.

I'm fairly certain that both of these were fixed recently; at the
least, both look quite familiar to me from the GCC lists :)
I don't immediately see the solutions in the changelog for regex.c, so
maybe it was never fixed, only reported. The libtool problem is fixed
by:
2001-07-21 Michael Chastain <chastain@redhat.com>
* ltconfig: Set max_cmd_len to a maximum of 512Kb, as it seems some
HPUX 11.0 systems have trouble with 1MB. Mark as gcc-local.
* ltmain.sh: Mark as gcc-local.
I'm almost entirely sure that upstream libtool has a different fix for
this now, as I don't think Alexandre Oliva would have let it get
checked in otherwise :). Alexandre, am I right?

On a brighter note (?), it did build using GCC on 10.20 but (consistent
with rbrowns report) it didn't work.

Thanks for the info. A quick check of the trunk on 11.00 shows the
ltconfig problem still occures.
