Questions about contributing new port

Hi,

We are going to contribute our new port, nds32 architecture, on behalf of
AndesTech.
Just ask in advance, does it mean we should submit them all before
2013-09-07 for GDB-7.7 branch?
And since GDB requires bfd/opcodes, we should submit our binutils port
before GDB?

Hi Wei-cheng,

I am not sure I understand the motivation behind your question, but IMO
you could send the patches right away if they're ready (which I assume
so, from what you wrote).  No need to wait after the release of 7.7,
also because it will take some time until there...

What I would do is to contribute the patches at the same time, maybe as
part of a patch series, with the first part being directed to binutils,
and the other parts to GDB.  I'm not a maintainer though, so you may
wait some days before you start sending things.

Since Sergio qualified his answer with "I am not a Maintainer", I wanted
to confirm that I agree with Sergio's advice. :-)

I also wanted to add:

Please also verify that you have copyright assignment papers all done
with the FSF, or else start the process now, as it takes a bit of time.

Yes, we've signed FSF agreement years ago.
And the first question I asked is about
if we want our port included in GDB-7.7,
then we should hurry up and send them before 7.7 branch created.
Am I right?

Most certainly. Sending ASAP will help increase your changes of
seeing these changes be part of 7.7. Whether it actually makes it
to 7.7 is a little bit dependent on a number of factors mostly
around complexity of your code, and the amount of comments and
change requests generated during the review process...
