Just FYI, your patch doesn't seem to work with binaries compiled on XLF:

(gdb) ptype varx
warning: Object count -17 < 0
type = real*4 (*,5:*,17:*)
(gdb) p varx
warning: Object count -17 < 0
warning: Object count -17 < 0
$5 = (<assumed size array> Cannot resolve DW_OP_push_object_address for
a missing object
