That's a two-step dance (from reading the beginning of the file):
1. Put the following into your ~/.emacs:
(autoload 'gdmi "gdb-mi"
"Run gdb on program FILE in buffer *gud-FILE*."
t)
2. Type "M-x gdbmi RET" to activate.
