Hello to all,
We are trying to use the ltt for debugging a problem on our hardware and no data is logged in the trace.
Our Hardware:
- ppc405gpr
- linux 2.6 (Linux version 2.6.26.8-00004) - from Denx
We have done the following steps for the ltt installation:
- Download "patch-2.6.26-rc8-0.10-pre56" from http://ltt.polymtl.ca
- installed the patch (one error on the "kernel/printk.c" file)
- In the kernel menuconfig, select all related ltt options (see the .config file attached)
- make / make modules_install
- Cross compile for the ppc405 the "ltt-control" (wget http://ltt.polymtl.ca/files/lttng/ltt-control-0.48-27022008.tar.gz)
We are using the following commands on the target to start the traces:
mkdir /mnt/debugfs
echo "debugfs /mnt/debugfs debugfs rw 0 0" >> /etc/fstab
mount /mnt/debugfs
#Start Trace
lttctl -n trace -b
lttd -c /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace -t /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1 -d
#Stop Trace
lttctl -n trace -R
Question: we are executing the "lttctl -n trace -b" command, the "/mnt/debugfs/ltt" content is always zero i.e.:
# ls -alR /mnt/debugfs/ltt
/mnt/debugfs/ltt:
drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 .
drwxr-xr-x 6 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 trace
/mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace:
drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 ..
-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 compact_0
drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 control
-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 cpu_0
/mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace/control:
drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 ..
-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 facilities_0
-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 interrupts_0

-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 network_0
-r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 processes_0
It seems that the kernel doesn't send the "trace_mark" to the application. How can I fix this or debug it?
Thanks,
Francois.

Our Hardware: - ppc405gpr - linux 2.6 (Linux version 2.6.26.8-00004) - from Denx We have done the following steps for the ltt installation: - Download "patch-2.6.26-rc8-0.10-pre56" from http://ltt.polymtl.ca - installed the patch (one error on the "kernel/printk.c" file) - In the kernel menuconfig, select all related ltt options (see the .config file attached) - make / make modules_install - Cross compile for the ppc405 the "ltt-control" (wget http://ltt.polymtl.ca/files/lttng/ltt-control-0.48-27022008.tar.gz) We are using the following commands on the target to start the traces: mkdir /mnt/debugfs echo "debugfs /mnt/debugfs debugfs rw 0 0" >> /etc/fstab mount /mnt/debugfs #Start Trace lttctl -n trace -b lttd -c /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace -t /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1 -d #Stop Trace lttctl -n trace -R Question: we are executing the "lttctl -n trace -b" command, the "/mnt/debugfs/ltt" content is always zero i.e.: # ls -alR /mnt/debugfs/ltt /mnt/debugfs/ltt: drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 . drwxr-xr-x 6 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 .. drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 trace /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace: drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 . drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 .. -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 compact_0 drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 control -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 cpu_0 /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace/control: drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 . drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 .. -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 facilities_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 interrupts_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 modules_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 network_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 processes_0 It seems that the kernel doesn't send the "trace_mark" to the application. Our Hardware: - ppc405gpr - linux 2.6 (Linux version 2.6.26.8-00004) - from Denx We have done the following steps for the ltt installation: - Download "patch-2.6.26-rc8-0.10-pre56" from http://ltt.polymtl.ca - installed the patch (one error on the "kernel/printk.c" file) - In the kernel menuconfig, select all related ltt options (see the .config file attached) - make / make modules_install - Cross compile for the ppc405 the "ltt-control" (wget http://ltt.polymtl.ca/files/lttng/ltt-control-0.48-27022008.tar.gz) We are using the following commands on the target to start the traces: mkdir /mnt/debugfs echo "debugfs /mnt/debugfs debugfs rw 0 0" >> /etc/fstab mount /mnt/debugfs #Start Trace lttctl -n trace -b lttd -c /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace -t /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1 -d #Stop Trace lttctl -n trace -R Question: we are executing the "lttctl -n trace -b" command, the "/mnt/debugfs/ltt" content is always zero i.e.: # ls -alR /mnt/debugfs/ltt /mnt/debugfs/ltt: drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 . drwxr-xr-x 6 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 .. drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 trace /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace: drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 . drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:00 .. -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 compact_0 drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 control -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 cpu_0 /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace/control: drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 . drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 .. -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 facilities_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 interrupts_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 modules_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 network_0 -r-------- 1 0 0 0 Jan 1 00:17 processes_0 It seems that the kernel doesn't send the "trace_mark" to the application. How can I fix this or debug it? Thanks, Francois. How can I fix this or debug it? > Hi, 1) Have you activated the instrumentation with "ltt-armall" ? 2) Files in /mnt/debugfs/ltt are always 0-sized. Please read the LttngManual on the http://www.lttng.org website to figure out that lttctl -d (not -b) will start lttd which will hook on the debugfs files and write their content to disk (into real files). For more info, please see lttctl --help. * [ltt-dev] ltt - no traces logged using lttctl 2009-03-09 23:01 ` Mathieu Desnoyers @ 2009-03-10 18:21 ` francois arsenault 2009-03-10 18:21 ` francois arsenault ` (2 more replies) 0 siblings, 3 replies; 8+ messages in thread From: francois arsenault @ 2009-03-10 18:21 UTC (permalink / raw) Hello, Thanks for the quick response... OK, I have tried the "ltt-armall" command. I have used the following commands my the target to startup the traces: ./ltt-armall.sh lttctl -n trace -b lttd -c /mnt/debugfs/ltt/trace -t /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1 -d WAIT FOR A WHILE... lttctl -n trace -R The result, in "/mnt/tmpfs/traceout1" is as follow: ls -alR /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1 /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1: drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 100 Jan 1 00:03 . drwxrwxrwt 4 0 0 140 Jan 1 00:03 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 1048576 Jan 1 00:04 compact_0 drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 140 Jan 1 00:03 control -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 1048576 Jan 1 00:04 cpu_0 /mnt/tmpfs/traceout1/control: drwxr-xr-x 2 0 0 140 Jan 1 00:03 . drwxr-xr-x 3 0 0 100 Jan 1 00:03 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 65536 Jan 1 00:04 facilities_0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 65536 Jan 1 00:04 interrupts_0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 65536 Jan 1 00:04 modules_0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 65536 Jan 1 00:04 network_0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 0 0 262144 Jan 1 00:04 processes_0 OK, It seems to have somethings in those files. So I "tared" and tftp the files on my HOST that is running LTTV. My question is: How can I view the "traceout1" trace result in the LTTV. When I select a "add" trace in LTTV, I cannot choose one of the file traces from my Target (traceout1)? Also., what is the format input trace that is required by the LTTV? * [ltt-dev] ltt - no traces logged using lttctl 2009-03-10 18:21 ` francois arsenault 2009-03-10 18:21 ` francois arsenault @ 2009-03-10 18:21 ` francois arsenault 2009-03-10 20:23 ` Mathieu Desnoyers 2 siblings, 0 replies; 8+ messages in thread From: francois arsenault @ 2009-03-10 18:21 UTC (permalink / raw) Hello, Thanks for the quick response...
