Does someone knows why the xml format for the markers definition and the generation with Genevent has been abandonned ?

Because people had to keep manually in sync the xml description of the
events and the source code. In current LTTng versions, the event
description is embedded in the trace_mark() macros and are part of the
source code / binary.
