It's not that we're demanding that we use a broken implementation.
It's just that, so far, HJ's "new" implementation hasn't been
acceptable to replace libiberty's current one, and nobody has fixed
libiberty's implementation.

Actually, the bug is a bit more fundamental that you'd think - it has
to do with qualifiers on class method pointers, at least.  But as I
mentioned before, I'm working on it.
