I ran into problems building from the CVS tree earlier today. I checked
out the GDB tree using:

  cvs -d :pserver:anoncvs@sourceware.org:/cvs/src co gdb

Building failed, with a warning that Tcl definitions could not be found.

The problem is the gdb/gdbtk sub-directory. This directory does not
appear in the GIT download (even though that's mirrored from CVS).
Delete this directory from the CVS download and everything builds just
fine.

So it looks like some admin surgery may be needed to remove the
gdb/gdbtk directory from the CVS tree.

Jeremy

(thanks to Phil Muldoon for pointing me at the GIT alternative)

configure --disable-gdbtk

Andreas.

Thanks Andreas - this would also work.

CVS and its GIT mirror should not differ (I don't think it's a transient
of today). That needs checking.

ATB,

This command should not get you gdb/gdbtk. It doesn't when I check it
out. DId you cvs up -dP later on?

Yes I did.

We purposely omitted gdbtk from the git mirror.

My impression is that few gdb developers regularly build gdbtk. I
think that most times I have tried it in the past 6 months or so, it
has failed to build for one reason or another. (There are windows
where it builds, but it is usually quickly broken again.)

One could argue that the git decision was a bad choice. To my mind it
just reflects gdbtk's own state -- limbo.

Tom

That's why. Update using the same command you used to check out, and
you won't get gdbtk (or a lot of other things not related to GDB).

Hi Daniel,

I'll use "cvs co", not "cvs update". Thanks for the explanation.

Update is fine, it's a question of what options.
The options Daniel named will cause update to pull in
stuff that was not originally checked out.
