Any progress on the subject yet? Is there any (even unofficial) support in
the Linux kernel for following the child-process after a fork?

The support is in Linux kernels since 2.5.something-or-other-I-don't-remember.

However, I got distracted when submitting the GDB support patches. 
It's vaguely possible that it will make the next release, but only
vaguely.
