FYI/HEAD: Patches applied to branch master

Hello,

Now that the gdb-17-branch has been created, I have created
the following two commits to update the main development branch
accordingly:

  - [release/HEAD 1/2] Bump version to 18.0.50.DATE-git.
  - [release/HEAD 2/2] Update gdb/NEWS after GDB 17 branch creation.

Pushing them to master next.

Now that the GDB 17 branch has been created,
this commit bumps the version number in gdb/version.in to
18.0.50.DATE-git

For the record, the GDB 17 branch was created
from commit 46ada32fc979550ad4f46792b74c182bb7232aeb.

the section of the current branch, now that it has been cut.
