GDB 7.6 branch status...

GDB 7.6 branch status...

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to do a quick status on the branch. As far as I can tell,
the only item that we decided was blocking was the Aarch64 patch series,
and I think it's all in. Is that correct?

Due to my schedule this week, I am not going to be able to create
the branch before this coming Monday. So we still have time for
last-minute things I might have missed.

Can anyone impacted please let me know?

This is correct we have all of the AArch64 support patches committed.

The btrace patch series should have been in but I am sorry I delayed it in the
last moment, it was first posted already on May 2012.

It seems mostly done now, how much time remains for the remaining work to do,
Markus?

The first version that is currently on archer is functional. It needs some cleanup like
removing the old cli and porting the tests - and it lacks documentation changes.

I would expect 2-3 weeks.

Given that the delay was caused by us, and that there is no big
imperative to start the release process now, we can talk about
delaying the release, but only if it makes a difference to Markus
and the users of this feature.  Some contributors have sent patches
where they said that they would not commit until the branch is cut,
and a 2-3 weeks delay is a long delay.

This is the first version of that feature, so it does make a difference. For
one, it allows us to collect feedback on the feature.

I would appreciate if this feature would be included into the next version,
If that's acceptable for you.

Unless I hear objections from the other maintainers, I will wait
for inclusion of your patches.

if you find that progress is going as fast as hoped and you might
miss the 3 weeks deadline.

I did a clean configure and rebuild on the git version after pulling the
changes I committed - without problems.

I'll do a cvs checkout and build, next.

Awesome effort from the both of you. Pending any last-minute issues,
we will cut the branch tomorrow.

Just FYI, I'm going to be away the rest of the week.
If something ends up blocked because of me, I won't be able
to get to it until next week the earliest.
I intended to review a few patches and threads more this
week, but well, time flies...  Apologies to whoever may
be affected.

That will not be a problem at all.  We are waiting for the btrace patch
series to get in and so we probably have another 2 weeks before we try
again. And we'll wait some more if there is something else we'd really
like to be in.

All of them are bug fix patches.  Suggest we fixed these issues before
7.6 release.
