Sorry to not be clear, but I was doing it before running:
$gdb ./UPXps
GNU gdb 6.4

There is absolutely no warranty for GDB.  Type "show warranty" for details.
This GDB was configured as "i686-pc-linux-gnu"...(no debugging symbols found)
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1".

(gdb) x/2i 0xc07fd0
0xc07fd0:       Cannot access memory at address 0xc07fd0
