A wishlist item for gdb. Forgive me if this has already been implemented in 
CVS. I haven't managed to crawl out of my 5.0 sandbox yet.

       operate-and-get-next (C-o)
              Accept the current line for execution and fetch the
              next  line  relative  to  the current line from the
              history for editing.  Any argument is ignored.
