Me too FWIW.

I am not sure why I did it this way.  I might have been concerned about
changing TERM, but I don't think that can actually be done (except via
Python I suppose).  (See the local-environment series...)

Anyway we might want to have different settings per UI, but that would
require more work anyhow.
