Eli,  I think the change is ok (actually thanks, this has been lurking 
for so long it is emabarising) (lets ignore the patch V patch V patch 
confusion here - I'm sure the patch sitting in your sandpit is correct 
:-) and it should just go into both devo and the branch.  (I just hope 
no other patches like this are lurking).

Besides, this means I will have run out of excuses and will be able to 
spin up an initial 5.1 release candidate.
