For the record, I went slightly off protocol, since I asked that all patches ported to the branch be accompanied by a short description of the fix to be added to the branch wiki page, and that this description be reviewed. This is something still under discussion, and it was the first such entry, os it just felt easier to discuss something concrete to start.
