Yes, `.dynsym' is always present in the primary binary file. `.dynsym' is processed by ld.so, `.symtab' is ignored by ld.so and is provided there only for debuggers in shared libraries. `.dynsym' is covered by a LOAD segment, `.symtab' is not, therefore it cannot be used during runtime.
