It *is* caused by something else. Note the lack of a "before" version in my message. I went back and built the stock gdb like I should have, and it's broken the same way. gdb cvs HEAD broke some time between 2004-02-07 02:51:38 UTC (exact) and 2004-02-13 T 15:25:06 UTC (approx).
